The Medici Innovation Hall of Fame recognises and honors the most innovative organizations that have created a wonderful environment for innovation. The award is not as much about one of breakthrough products or services. It is about great processes that encourage employees to experiment and make mistakes! It is about having innovation as a strategic priority, managing business with a portfolio of ideas and having a culture which propagates innovation.
This year, The Medici Institute along with Harvard Business Review, TITAN and MYRA School of business, conducted the maiden award function on 28th Jan 2013 at Hotel Trident, Mumbai during the mega event "Reverse Innovation Meets Medici Effect".
At this grand event, in the presence of 140 senior executives from corporate India and some from abroad, two titans of innovation - Vijay Govindrajan, currently ranked as No.3 thinker in the world, and Frans Johansson, the ultimate practical innovation guru and the founder of the Medici Effect concept - felicitated the award winners.
The assessment evaluated each applicant organization against 23 processes of innovation spanning across 5 major areas of innovation. An elaborate iterative process in which organizations were required to justify their position in each of the process with supporting evidences formed the core of the assessment.
Organizations were compared on their innovation profiles across the five areas as shown below. An eminent jury finally selected 4 organizations out of the shortlisted 25 as final entrants to the Hall of Fame.
The Form of the trophy is inspired by intersections. The elements of varying heights are symbolic of diversity. When seen from above, the intersection between these elements creates a pure form of circle, thus signifying how coming together of diverse elements can bring about the innovation.

The elements are made using the Bidri carft. More than 4000 years old.
Bidriware is manufactured from an alloy of copper and zinc by casting. The zinc content gives the alloy a deep black color. The craftsman uses small chisels to engrave the design over the freehand etching. Fine wire or flattened strips of pure silver are then carefully hammered into these grooves. For the final blackening process, a special variety of soil which is available only in the unlit portions of the Bidar fort is used. The finished product appears black with brilliant silver inlay.
